Fire Watch Services
Fire watch services provide essential coverage during system outages or routine maintenance.
When Fire Watch Services Are Needed
Fire watch services are critical for those times when a fire panel is being serviced or replaced. Uniformed guards conduct regular and systematic patrols of all areas affected by the fire panel outage, especially common areas, mechanical rooms, stairwells, and any location with fire hazards. Patrol frequency is typically every 30-minutes, but may vary depending on local fire code or building management instructions.
Guard Responsibilities and Patrol Procedures
Guards have defined responsibilities, outlined in their ‘Post Orders’ to monitor hazards, be alert for signs of fire, smoke, unusual heat, or any condition that could lead to a fire. During patrols, they check for blocked exits, accessible escape routes, malfunctioning fire extinguishers, and unsafe storage of flammable materials. Observations made over the course of the fire watch shall be documented in a ‘Fire Watch Log’ noting patrol times, observations, and any incidents.
Commitment to Resident Safety
Resident safety is of utmost importance. Trained guards are knowledgeable of emergency procedures, in the event that an evacuation becomes necessary. These guards work with property management to become familiar with the building’s evacuation routes, fire extinguisher locations, and emergency reporting protocols.
